What are Polynomials
What are Polynomials Polynomials are the expressions which contain single term, two terms or more than two terms of numbers and variables combined together by any of the basic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. However for a given expression to be a polynomial, it should follow one rule. There should not be any variable placed in the denominator, and if it is placed then it is no longer called a polynomial. Therefore the variables are placed in the numerator and even if the expression contains many terms, it is still called a polynomial. Example 1: Is the given expression, 7x + 4 3x + 10 a polynomial? Simplify the given expression. Given expression: 7x + 4 3x + 10 Since the variable x is not placed in the denominator hence yes, the given expression is a polynomial. In order to simplify the above expression, we have to combine the like terms. Like terms are the terms which are either plain numbers or are the terms which contain the same variable. This implies 7x+ 4- 3x+ 10 = 7x- 3x+ 4+ 10==4x + 14 is the simplified form! Example 2: Is the given expression, 2x+ 3y+ 5x- 9y- 5a polynomial? Simplify the given expression. Given expression: 2x+ 3y+ 5x- 9y- 5 Since the variables x or y is not placed in the denominator hence yes, the given expression is a polynomial. In order to simplify the above expression, we have to combine the like terms. This implies 2x + 3y + 5x- 9y- 5= 2x + 5x + 3y- 9y- 5-7x- 6y - 5 is the simplified form!
How to Choose the Right Math Tutors - Private Tutoring
How to Choose the Right Math Tutors BobbiM Jun 3, 2016 Has it become a struggle for you or your child and you are looking for a private math tutor? Weâll let you in on a little secretâ¦..once you find the right math tutor and get started, youâll wonder why you took so long to start! Whether itâs elementary math or a college math tutor that you need, thereâs going to be several available that can help you with whatever math class or math test prep that you need. Thatâs the easy part of this process! The more complicated part and one that needs to be done carefully is determining what you need and then matching those needs with the available tutors. What to Look for in Private Math Tutors: To start with, just choosing an online math tutor without doing some checking on if this tutor is a fit for you or your child could be a recipe for disaster. There are a few things to consider when looking for a tutor. Another key point is not to simply focus on the âpedigreeâ of the tutors that you find. Weâre talking about the schools they went to, degree that they have or test scores they achieved. Itâs impressive and great that they have any or all of thatâ¦.but can they teach? Thereâs a massive difference between being a rocket scientist and tutoring Algebra I successfully. This means you need to check their tutoring background and experience and determine if thereâs a fit for you or your child. Find out if theyâve done test prep in these areas or worked with other students in specific math topics. Do they mostly work with elementary students or college level? Thereâs a tremendous difference. Speak with the tutor, check out their reviews. Ask questions! Make sure that the tutor knows what you are struggling with and do they have suggestions and the ability to assist you or your child in these areas. Most math tutors will offer a couple of suggestions based on your questions or they might ask additional questions to gain further insight into how they can best help. Thatâs a good sign! Common areas where we have found students need help and search for math tutors include: College math tutors Algebra I math tutor Algebra 2 tutors 4th grade math tutoring geometry tutor pre calculus and calculus tutors SAT Math tutor ACT Math tutor 6th grade math tutor So when you are looking for a private tutor for any of the above math subject areas or another area, check for tutors that have experience in tutoring that subject. Read the reviews of other students that were tutored to see what they have to say. Youâll be amazed at how much you can learn about a tutor from their reviews. The sooner that you get started with tutoring and get the help that you need, the less likely that you or your child will fall behind in school. Unfortunately, math is one of those areas where once you slip behind it becomes far more complicated and difficult to ever catch up. So staying on top of it and on track with what is happening in class is critical to long term success. Good luck with math this year and your success moving forward! We wish you all the best. The impact of online games on kids - Aloha Mind Math - ALOHA Mind Math
The impact of online games on kids Thisarticleabout how kidâs online games might surreptitiously be introducing advertising targeted at kids raises a very real concern. While most parents may have parental control measures on their computers to protect kids, we might not always think about the messages sent to kids through advertising gimmicks like this one. These are not the only concerns related to children spending too much time online either; here are some more things for parents to be aware of: Behavioral changes:When kids spend too much time online, you might find a lot of changes in their behavior and attitudes. This could be a range of things starting from becoming more of a loner because of preferring to spend time with their computer, or in some cases there have even been reports of an increase in violent or aggressive behavior. Parents need to be aware of the exact contents of a game, maybe sit and play a few times with a child before allowing anything, instead of only depending on the creatorâs age labeling. Online identity exposed:Depending on the kind of game the child is playing, it might expose his or her identity to wrongdoers, for example in chat rooms connected with the game. Though the actual game might be age appropriate, it is difficult for parents to regulate all associated pages or popups. Not just in games, this is a concern even when kids spend unregulated time on social networking sites. http://www.flickr.com/photos/whiteafrican/2870711774/ Affects schoolwork:If the time spent online and on gaming is not strictly watched, it is possible for kids to get addicted to a particular game, that leads to too much time being spent on it. We know the thrill of playing something new that can grip us even as adults, so children are all the more susceptible. This could lead to a string of actions related to spending too much time online, not doing homework or studying in the time allotted for it, and finally leading to a sliding of grades before the child realizes what is happening. These are some of the biggest possible impacts on kids playing games online, not meant to frighten you, but make you aware of what to watch out for when your child is spending time online. At Aloha, we provide you a great way to engage your childâs attention, which will result in regulating their free time spent online too. Abacus beyond Mathematical abilities - ALOHA Mind Math
Abacus â" beyond Mathematical abilities Children all over the world seem to be developing shorter attention spans and this would definitely impact the way they approach learning in the long run. As parents we can employ a lot of methods for improving memory and concentration skills which would be beneficial for our children. Starting with games of listening at a young age, and moving to mental puzzles and story telling sessions as they grow older, we can start off this process even at home. As the child grows older, one of the most effective ways to go about this would be using the tehnique of Abacus that uses mental math to achieve this improvement. Helping our children to develop their listening and focusing skills by using mental math techniques would be a great starting point for improving their overall performance too. The proponents of Abacus emphasize that this technique uses the right brain as well as the left brain skills, and therefore contributes to overall mental development too. The teaching method involves first using a physical abacus to carry out the mathematical calculations, and as the student starts getting adept at it, the abacus is no longer used, but instead pictured in the mind. Since all the steps from taking in the question to the calculation involves no pen and paper or any other aids, but is only done mentally, the concentration skills are really honed very well. It is believed that the ideal time for such a program is between the age of 5 and 12 years as the brain is developed enough to start understanding the concepts, but is still being imprinted with new knowledge much more easily than we as adults can learn. Most Abacus training academies take in children at these ages, though some may start a little earlier at 4 years too. The visualization of the abacus brings with it an enhanced creativity due to the practice of picturing solutions in the mind so well. With an improvement in the speed of their dealing with mathematical problems will also come an increased confidence and self-esteem, and this would lead to an overall interest in all subjects and not just related to fast math.
